Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title sealing material useful for waterproofing of iron products and concrete products and excellent in swelling rate, mechanical strength, adhesion and durability, by mixing a reaction product of a water- swelling polyurethane prepolymer and a highly water-absorptive resin with a soft resin or a rubber. CONSTITUTION:A water-swelling polyurethane prepolymer (a) such as a prepolymer prepd. by reacting an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide copolymer polyoxyalkylene glycol having a hydroxyl equivalent of 400-6,000 with an org. diisocyanate and having a propylene oxide/ethylene oxide ratio of 7/3-0/10 is reacted with a highly water-absorptive resin (b) reactive with the component (a) and having a particle size of at most 100mu (e.g., a saponified vinyl acetate- methyl acrylate copolymer) at an (a) to (b) ratio of 1/2-5 to yield a reaction product (B). 100pts.wt. soft resin and/or rubber (A) such as an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is blended with 10-200pts.wt. component B and, if necessary, an inorg. additive.
