Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve braking ability and reliability by providing an auxiliary brake for applying braking force according to a car velocity and an exhaust brake for substantially increasing the controllability of the brake. CONSTITUTION:A turbine brake 6 as an auxiliary brake is adapted to apply braking force according to a car velocity to a crankshaft 4 to brake at the time of engine brake. At the initial stage of the engine brake, when the braking ability of the turbine brake 6 is near the limit of performance as compared with the car velocity, the opening of a throttle valve 37 at a discharge port 19 of a turbine housing is made larger and a solenoid valve 14 is turned on to operate an exhaust brake 5, at this time braking is mainly conducted by the exhaust brake 5, but the prior braking state brought by the turbine brake 6 can be kept.
