Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a blue luminescent fluophor suitable for the high-luminance cathode ray tubes for use in projection television sets or three-wavelength type mixed white fluorescent lamps, by synthesis using europium halide with bromine compound or iodine compound as the flux. CONSTITUTION:First, a fluophor of composition formula M3MgSiO2O8:Eu (M is at least one kind of alkaline earth metal selected from Ca, Sr and Ba) is synthesized using, as the raw materials, said metals) M, a Mg-contg. compound and SiO2, with divalent europium as the activator and a bromine compound and/or iodine compound as the flux to carry out calcination. Thence, pref. furthermore, calcination is again performed in the presence of one kind of compound selected from Na2So4, K2SO4 or Rb2SO4, thus obtaining the objective fluophor.
