Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the titled gas at low cost in a simple way in a compact reactor, by contact of methanol with a catalyst at high temperatures using a shell-tube type reactor. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst-packed tube side of a shell-tube type reactor is charged with methanol vapor, whereas a cooling medium is passed through the shell side to properly control the reaction temperature; also, the CO concentration is brought to <=500ppm is the gas at the reactor outlet, thus obtaining the objective gas. A preferable mode is as follows: said reactor i.e. a methanol conversion reactor is divided into two sections; in the first section, a narrow- sized tube as the catalyst-packing tube is used to enhance heat-removing effect, whereas, in the second section, a relatively large-sized tube is used to complete the conversion along with minimizing the pressure loss within the tube, also a heat exchanger is provided between the first and second sections to reduce the temperature of the resulting gas from the conversion, through the cooling medium, and the gas having thus brought to the proper temperature is fed to the second section.
