Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber having high electrical conductivity and mechanical properties which are further improved by drawing, by compounding a carbonaceous fibrous substance produced by vapor-growth process to a thermoplastic fiber-forming synthetic polymer. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber is produced by compounding a thermoplastic fiber-forming synthetic polymer (preferably a condensed polyamide of a diamine and a dicarboxylic acid, etc.) with an electrically conductive substance consisting of a carbonaceous fibrous substance produced by vapor-growth process. The amount of the fibrous substance is selected to give the objective fiber having a fiber content of 7-35wt.%. The carbonaceous fibrous substance grown in vapor phase is preferably produced usually by introducing a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons and organometallic compound into a hot zone to effect the thermal decomposition and catalytic reaction of the hydrocarbons and, as necessary, graphitizing the product.
