Abstract

PURPOSE: To extend the life of a current-limiting circuit breaker by connecting a resistor in parallel to a series combination of a current-limiting element and a 1st circuit breaker and further connecting a 2nd circuit breaker in series to the said series combination.
CONSTITUTION: When a short-circuit current flows, 1st and 2nd circuit breaker 23, 22 start electrode opening actions and at the same time a current limiting element 20 starts current limiting action. Here, the circuit breaker 23 opens its electrode at first to interrupt a follow current flowing through the element 20. As a result, only the current limited with a resistor 21 flows. The circuit breaker 22 is then opened with this current to interrupt the short-circuit current. With this constitution, since the follow current caused by the limiting action of the element 20 is interrupted with the circuit breaker 23, damage to the element 20 is reduced. As a result, the life of current limiting interruption is extended.
