Abstract
PURPOSE:To separate a low molecular weight compound such as an alcohol, carboxylic acid, amine, etc., by passing a liquid containing the low molecular weight compound through a column packed with a crosslinked glucomannan spherical particle. CONSTITUTION:A low molecular weight compound (e.g., alcohol, carboxylic acid or amine) having <=500mol.wt. is separated by passing a liquid containing the low molecular weight compound through a column packed with a crosslinked glucomannan spherical particle having <=2,000 exclusion limit molecular weight. The above-mentioned method can be used in identification of plural low molecular weight compound in a mixed solvent or separation and identification of each ingredient. The crosslinked glucomannan spherical particle is produced by obtaining spherical particle of an ester having 1-500mum particle size by esterifying glucomannan, in dissolving the ester in a solvent and stirring and suspending the solution in aqueous medium, saponifying the spherical particle, dispersing the saponified product in an organic medium and crosslinking the dispersion with an epihalohydrin, etc.
