Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent generation of pitting by limiting the content of nickel in a stainless steel base to 10wt.% or less in a conductive composite comprising a conductive polymer and the stainless steel base. CONSTITUTION:In a conductive composite material obtained by forming a conductive polymer such as polyaniline on stainless steel by electrolytic oxidation polymerization, the content of nickel in the stainless steel is limited to 10wt.% or less. When the composite material is used as the electrode or current collector of a battery, generation of pitting is prevented. For example, a stainless steel net having a nickel content of 9.30wt.% is immersed in an electrolyte containing 1 mol/l aniline and 2 mol/l HBF4 and electrolytic oxidation polymerization is conducted at a current density of 6 mA/cm<2> at 15 deg.C for 2.5hours to obtain a composite material. For the battery using this composite material, although charge-discharge is repeated 68 cycles until discharge capacity is reduced to half or less of the initial capacity, no pitting is developed.
