Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce construction cost by injecting a solidifying material in the whole zone of a sealing space between the inner periphery of an immersed element and the outer periphery of a shield machine to adjust the element inner pressure and removing a bulkhead and backfilling and thereafter, cutting off water and starting the shield machine. CONSTITUTION: Immersed elements 3 having a hermetically sealed structure in which a shield machine 2 is housed at the end of an immersed tunnel 1 are settled and connected to each other, and a solidifying material 6 is injected in the whole zone of the hermetically sealed space between the inner periphery of the elements and the outer periphery of the shield machine 2. Then, after a specified strength has been brought in the solidifying material 6, the internal pressure of the immersed elements 3 is adjusted and a bulkhead 31 at the front face is removed. The range of an excavating ground is backfilled with the backfilling solidifying material 6 or a chemical liquid to cut off water. Then, the shield machine 2 is started from the inside of the immersed elements 3 to the solidifying material 6 and the solidifying material layer 7 for backfilling or the chemical liquid layer or the like. In this way, the shield machine can be safely started from the end of an existing immersed tunnel.
