Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve resistance of a member to corrosion caused by molten copper by constituting the member of C, B4C, and a carbide other than B4C in specified proportions of said three components. CONSTITUTION:The title member comprises a molded body consisting of 40-98wt.% C, and 60-2wt.% B4C + another carbide, wherein the proportion by weight of B4C to another carbide other than B4C is 1:(0.2-1). Said carbide other than B4C is, for example, CaC2, Cr3C2, SiC, TiC, etc. In this corrosion resistant member, graphite has relatively high corrosion resistance to molten copper among C materials as known conventionally. B4C and other carbide B4C have an effect for inhibiting oxidation at an interface between copper and air. But, when the content exceeds 60%, the thermal shock resistance decreases and the wettability for molten copper increases. On one hand, when the content of C is <2%, the erosion preventing effect at the interface between copper and air is lost. The proportion of B4C to other carbide is regulated to the above described range in order to obtain maximum oxidation preventing effect at the interface between copper and air.
