Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a chlorinated vinyl chloride resin which comprises an after- chlorinated vinyl chloride copolymer having a specified compsn. and a specified relation between the content of N-substd. maleimide units and the degree of after-chlorination and which is satisfactory in heat resistance and excellent in workability and impact resistance. CONSTITUTION:A chlorinated vinyl chloride resin is obtd. by after-chlorinating a vinyl chloride copolymer having an average degree of polymn. of 500-1,500 and contg. 75-95wt.% vinyl chloride units and 5-25wt.% N-substd. maleimide units, wherein the relation between the content of N-substd. maleimide units, represented by Xwt.%, and the degree of after-chlorination Y, given as the increase in the wt.% of chlorine, is such that 2<=Y<=15, 25<=X+2Y<=45. The vinyl chloride copolymer used for the present resin should have an average degree of polymn. of 500-1,500, pref. 600-1,400.
