Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of a gear and to reduce noise generated from the gear by subjecting the surface of the gear to prescribed heat treatment, immersing the gear as the anode in a rhodanate-based salt bath and anodically oxidizing the gear at a prescribed temp. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a gear is subjected to heat treatment such as carburization-hardening, carbonitriding, soft nitriding or induction hardening to increase the mechanical strength. The gear is immersed in a rhodanate-based salt bath in a tank, kept at 130-250 deg.C and anodically electrolyzed with the gear as the anode and the tank as the cathode to form a layer consisting of iron sulfide and a sulfur compd. on the surface of the gear.
