Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain uniformly distributed light and facilitate manufacture by heating the contact sides of the two ends of a bulb by a heater, welding with another bulb, narrowing the heated zone, heating and melting the center of welds, blowing in air, and forming a communication hole in the molten part. CONSTITUTION:Two straight bulbs 21a, 21b are arranged so that their outer surfaces contact each other, and a burner is inserted in one of these bulbs 21a. The bulb contact side of this bulb 21a near the pipe end is heated with flame F of the burner within a specified length x, to weld with the other bulb 21b. After completion of welding, the flame F is narrowed, and approx. the center of the welds is heated and melted, and air E is blown in from outside bulb. Thus a communication hole 29 is formed. In the same manner another communication hole 29 is formed near the other pipe end, to form a revolving airtight space 23. Then mercury and rare gas are encapsulated in this airtight space 23 as discharging gas.
