Abstract

PURPOSE:To extract described areas at a high speed and with simple constitution by performing projection for image data after counting once the image elements for each minor area and adding these counted elements in various directions to perform the projection of a wide area so that the described areas are decided. CONSTITUTION:A plane where the image data are distributed is divided into plural minor areas, (e.g., the plane grids of joint squares). A minor area-based image element projection means 2 counts the image elements in each minor area for projection of this area in the prescribed direction, e.g., horizontally or vertically. Then a wire area projection means 3 adds the number of image elements obtained by the means 2 in terms of a wide area including plural minor areas for projection of this wide area in various directions.
