Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase deflective strength, and to enhance surge and energy resistance by alternately laminating internal electrodes of a first kind, electrode sections of which for external connection are only exposed to the outside, and internal electrodes of a second kind having no electrode section for external connection and parting the internal electrodes of the first kind on their midways. CONSTITUTION:A varister 10 is composed of a varister element 12 in which green sheets 11a-11g are laminated, internal electrodes 13 formed onto the surfaces of the green sheets 11b-11e, and external electrodes 14 shaped at both ends of the element 12. The internal electrodes 13 have internal electrodes 15 of a first kind having electrode sections 15a for external connection connected to the external electrodes 14 and internal electrodes 16 of a second kind having no electrode section 15a. Only the electrode sections 15a for external connection are exposed at both ends of the element 12 in the internal electrodes 15 of the first kind, and the internal electrodes 15 are parted on their midways. The green sheets are joined mutually even in the parting sections 15c, deflective strength is increased, and surge and energy resistance is augmented. It is preferable that a space l1 between the internal electrodes 15 and 16 is brought to 0.2mm or less, a space l2 between the parting sections to 0.1mm or more and a space l3 between the internal electrode 16 of the second kind and the end surface of the green sheet 11 to 0.1mm or more.
