Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [A is formula II (R<5> is H or 1-4C alkyl) or formula III; R<1> is H or 1-4C alkyl (excluding tert. butyl); R<2> is methyl and R<3> is H, 1-4C alkyl or R<2> and R<3> are together oxo; R<4> is 1-8C alkyl; n is 1 or 2 (provided that when R<2> and R<3> are together oxo, n is only 2)] or nontoxic salt when A is formula II and R<5> is H. EXAMPLE:3,5-Dihydroxy-7-[3-methyl-5S-(2-methylbutylyloxy)-2-oxa-1R,6R- bicyclo [4,3,0] nona 7S-yl]heptanoic acid. USE:A HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. PREPARATION:For example, a compound expressed by formula IV (R<5a> is 1-4C alkyl) is reduced to provide the compound expressed by formula V which is one compound expressed by formula I.
