Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an image guide with small diameter, which is excellent in flexibility and can transmit a distinct and bright image, by specifying the value of refractive index in the center part of a core, the value of the refractive index in the outermost part of the core and the refractive index in the position of an averaged radius from the central axis of the core with the distribution of the refractive index of the core. CONSTITUTION:The image guide has a structure where 10<2>-10<7> vitreous silica- based optical fibers possessing the clad layer of doped vitreous silica on a silica-based vitreous core whose averaged radius is r1 are melted to be sticked one another. Supposing that the value of the refractive index in the center part of the core is n0 and the value of the refractive index in the outermost part of the core is n1 with the distribution of the refractive index of the core, the refractive index n2 in the position by the averaged radius 0.65r1 from the central axis of the core comes to have a value which satisfies a formula n2>=n1+0.60(n0-n1). Thus, an image scope with the small radius can be obtained, which is extremely excellent in the flexibility and distinct transmitted image.
