Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a porous material having large specific surface area and excellent heat resistance and suitable as a catalyst by reacting a smecties inorganic intercalation compound with a cationic organic compound and then heat treating the reaction product at the prescribed temperature. CONSTITUTION:A smecties inorganic intercalation compound such as montmorillonite, synthetic magnesium-smecties inorganic intercalation compound is prepared. Then the smecties inorganic intercalation compound is reacted with a cationic organic compound (e.g. dialkyl tert. ammonium chloride) and the cationic organic compound is taken into intercalation of the inorganic intercalation compound by ion exchange to afford smecties inorganic or organic intercalation compound. Then the reaction product is taken out and as necessary molded and heat-treated at 100-1,000 deg.C to provide the aimed porous material.
