Abstract
PURPOSE:To smooth picture element outputs and to prevent the whole dynamic range from decreasing by providing an amplifying circuit which has plural amplification stages and selecting one amplification stage corresponding to each picture element while a picture element output is read out. CONSTITUTION:Picture elements of a CCD image sensor are divided into 1st and 2nd groups where spectral filters for short and long wavelength bands are arranged and monitor picture elements where no spectral filter is arranged. A microcomputer outputs GN1=H and GN2=L for the outputs of the 1st group picture elements, R2/r is selected as the gain of the operational amplifier 28 of an analog processing circuit 15 by turning on an FET 30, and its output is multiplied by the gain R2/r. The microcomputer outputs GN1=GN2=H for the 2nd group and a gain R3/r is selected; and GN1=GN2=L is outputted for the monitor picture elements and a gain R1/r is selected. Thus, even when there are only three kinds of the output levels of the picture elements, all output levels are made nearly uniform by switching the gains and the image pickup device can be applied to the range of an A/D converter.
