Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the length of an ink sheet, by providing a means for restraining rotation of an ink sheet payout roll after a thermal head is started approaching a platen roller until the head comes to be pressed against the platen roller for thermal transfer. CONSTITUTION:After a thermal head 2 is started approaching a platen roller 3 until the head 2 comes to be pressed against the platen roller 3, rotation of a payout roll 9 is retained by the engagement of a ratchet lever 24 with a ratchet wheel 23, and payout of an ink sheet 1 is inhibited. Therefore, the head 2 is pressed against the platen roller 3 while returning the ink sheet 1, which has been taken up by a take-up roll 8, according to the movement of the head 2. From this condition, recording is started by rotating the platen roller 3 in a direction B and feeding a recording paper 5 and an ink sheet 1, according to a recording signal. This operation is conducted for each ink part of the ink sheet. Thus, the payout of the ink sheet 1 by the head 2 is minimized.
