Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a fuel discharge to the inside of a common rail to be controlled every time through high pressure in accordance with the driving condition by controlling the electrification timing to an electromagnetic valve having an external open type valve body. CONSTITUTION:A variable discharge high pressure pump 7 is faced to a cylinder 14, a plunger 15 inserted in the cylinder 14 reciprocally and slidably, and a pump chamber 16 formed by the inner periphery of the cylinder 14 and the upper surface of the plunger 15, and has a electromagnetic valve 30 provided fixedly on the cylinder 14. When the electromagnetic valve 30 is electrified, a valve body 38 closes a low pressure conduit 31, and as the pressurization in the pump chamber 16 is initiated by the plunger 15, the discharge of fuel to the inside of a common rail can be controlled through controlling the electrification timing to the electromagnetic valve 30 in accordance with the driving condition. Inasmuch as the valve body 38 is an external open valve, it is pushed further in the close valve direction by high fuel pressure after closing the low pressure conduit 31, and the sealing ability within the pump chamber 16 by the valve body 38 is further improved.
