CONSTITUTION:A tape length conversion means 22 converting the write system command received by a buffer part 21 to the tape length according to the recording density of time when it is written on the tape and a buffer input control means 23 restricting input for the buffer part 21 not to make the command accumulated in the buffer 21 to be over the tape length converted by the tape length conversion means 22 after a near end detection part 30 detects the near end are provided. That means, the input is controlled not by the prefetching possible number of the write system command decided based on the recording density and the longest block length of the write system command but by converting the write system command/data actually sent to the tape length according to the recording density at the time when it is written on the tape. Thus, the number of prefetching of the command is not fixed and improved.
