Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a carriage to be smoothly moved by providing a main guide shaft on the center of driving force when an optical head is moved to the direction which the optical head is intersected orthogonally with the information track of a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When two linear motor coils 13 are energized, electromagnetic force is received in a tracking direction C and the carriage 10 loading the optical head 9 is guided by the main guide shaft 17 and a sub-guide shaft 18 and moved to the tracking direction C. In this way, the combined central position of the driving force generating at, the two linear motor coil 13 is coincident approximately with the position of the center of gravity of the optical head 9 and the combined central position is also coincident with the position of the main guide shaft 17. Therefore, moment by linear motor driving force for the optical head 9 does not occur and resonance frequency can be raised. Besides, the moment does not occur for the main guide shaft 17 as well. Thus the carriage loading the optical head 9 can be smoothly moved.
