Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect a short-circuited portion reliably, by constructing a self-excited switching power source such that the limit level of emitter current is high under normal state and low under abnormal state such as short circuit of output. CONSTITUTION:A self-exciting switching power source comprises a switching transformer 4 having a main primary winding 1, a base drive winding 2 and a secondary winding 3, a switching transistor(Tr)5, a base drive circuit 6, an emitter current limiting circuit 7 and a secondary rectifying/smoothing circuit 8. The limiting circuit 7 comprises a Zener diode 16, resistors 14, 15, a capacitor 13 and a diode 12, and the base voltage of Tr11 is normally negative. Under abnormal state such as short circuit of output, Tr11 is turned OFF to limit emitter current of Tr5 so as to lower voltage of the base drive winding, thus decreasing negative voltage across the capacitor 13 and increasing base voltage of Tr11. Consequently, Tr11 is turned ON to limit emitter current of Tr5.
