Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a surface treating agent having a low viscosity and a high solid content as well as excellent processability and being capable of improving brightness and low temp. impact resistance, by compounding a specific modified polyolefin, a styrene/olefin block copolymer and an org. solvent. CONSTITUTION:A modified polyolefin (A) whose intrinsic viscosity (in decalin at 135 deg.C) is 0.1-1.0dl/g is obtd. by graft-copolymerizing 0.05-15wt.% unsatd. carboxylic acid (deriv.) (b) (e.g., maleic unhydride) onto a low-MW polyolefin (a) (e.g., propylene/ethylene copolymer) whose intrinsic viscosity (in decalin at 135 deg.C) is 0.01-3dl/g. A resin component is obtd. by mixing 10-90wt.% component A and 10-90wt.% styrene/olefin block copolymer selected from styrene/diolefin/styrene block copolymers (hydrogenated products). A surface treating agent is obtd. by dissolving 5wt.% or more this resin component in 95wt.% or less org. solvent (e.g., toluene). The surface of a molded item made of such a material as polyolefin is coated with this treating agent.
