Abstract
PURPOSE:To restrict deterioration of the performance of a cell and increase its life, especially its cycle life by solating or gelatinizing the electrolyte impregnated in a cathode plate, an anode plate and a retainer. CONSTITUTION:Electrolyte 4 is impregnated in cathode plate 1, an anode plate 2 and a retainer 3 disposed between the cathode and anode plates 1, 2, and solution of silicic acid is added to the electrolyte 4 to solate or gelatinize the electrolyte 4. By thus solating or gelatinizing the electrolyte 4, high concentration of sulfuric acid under the electrolyte 4 can be restricted, and vertical unevenness of charge and discharge reaction can be restricted. Deterioration of the performance of a cell can thus be restricted, and its life, expecially its cycle life, can be increased.
