CONSTITUTION:Sheets 12 are pressed against a pick-up roller 1 at a predeter mined pressure by means of a weight 13. A stack of several sheets 12 are fed in the paper feeding direction due to rotation of the roller 1, and are separated from each other by means of a separating roller 4 and a separating gate 6 so that the lowermost of the sheets alone is fed. If a sheet 14 jamming between the separating roller 4 and the separating gate 6 is removed in the direction A, the separating gate 6 is rotated in the direction A so as to make the gap between the separating gate 6 and the separating roller 4 wider. After removal of the sheet 14, the separating gate 16 is rotated in the paper feeding direction by means of a gate spring 11, and an adjusting screw 9 is adjusted to return the separating gate 16 to a position where the gap between the separating gate 6 and the separating roller 4 has a predetermined value.
