Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently remove a coating metal from the metal oxide base material by heating a material obtd. by coating the base material with the metal in the presence of carbon and by feeding gaseous chlorine to volatilize the coating metal as chloride. CONSTITUTION:Each material 1 obtd. by coating the metal oxide base material with a metal is put in a chlorination vessel 4 having carbon fibers on the bottom. The vessel 4 is heated with a circular electric furnace 5 and gaseous chlorine is fed from a feed pipe 6 to volatilize the coating metal as chloride. The volatilized chloride is removed from the system through an exhaust pipe 7 so heated that the chloride does not condense. The coating metal is removed until it is not detected at all on the surface of the material 1 and the base material can be reutilized because the surface roughness is not considerably changed.
