Abstract
PURPOSE:To impart clear directionality to the position of a radiation source and to facilitate the detection of said position, by mounting the dose rate meter, which is connected to a dose rate display meter, to the outside end part of a block-shaped radiation absorbing body. CONSTITUTION:A radiation source position detector 12 is arranged to the outer periphery of the welded part 5 of piping 4 in which a cable 2 having a radiation source 1 at the leading end thereof is inserted and constituted by mounting a dose rate meter 14 to the outside end part of a block-shaped radiation absorbing body 13 composed of lead or the like. When the cable 2 is inserted in the piping 4 and the radiation from the radiation source 1 approaches a welded part 5 to enter the detection range of the sensor 14, the intensity of the radiation is displayed on a dose rate display meter 10 and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the radiation source 1 and the absorbing body 13 to become gradually high. By stopping the insertion of the cable 2 at the point of time when the dose rate is displayed at the min. degree, the position of the radiation source in the piping 4 is detected accurately. By this method, detection accuracy can be enhanced.
