Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable automatic toll calculation, to secure the accuracy of collecting operation, and to save manpower by providing TV cameras at an entrance and an exit, printing license plate information on a laissez-passer, and matching this information against camera information and calculating a toll. CONSTITUTION: When an entrance position sensor 7a detects an entering vehicle 1, the entrance TV camera 5a photographs it. Its license plate is included in the photographed image and an entrance image processor 6a reads out license plate information on whether the plate is large or small, the vehicle kind, serial number, etc. A laissez-passer issuing machine 8 generates a laissez-passer on the basis of the entrance license plate information 7a from the device 6a and outputs it to the driver. At an exit, the driver of an exiting vehicle 3 inputs a laissez-passer into a toll calculating machine 9 and then the entrance point name and license plate information entered into the laissez-passer are read out and matched against license plate information 7b from an exit image processor 6b based upon the output of the exit TV camera 5b, and further the toll is calculated from the entrance and exit points, the license plate information, and vehicle kind information, so that the toll is paid according to the data 20.
