Abstract
PURPOSE: To monitor a shift from the maximum point of an economical speed during operation by continuously monitoring the ratio of a momentary fuel consumption rate, deciding the economical speed point according to the derivative and sign of an impulse corresponding to the ratio and the value of the impulse, and controlling the speed according to it. CONSTITUTION: A fuel consumption rate transducer 1 generates an output electric signal which is proportional to the momentary fuel consumption rate and an engine speed sensor 2 generates a signal representing the actual performance of the engine; after the signal is shaped and integrated, a unit 3 performs a dividing process to extract respective quotients and a unit 4 performs quantization and a clipping process. The output impulse is differentiated by a unit 5, the sign of the derivative is judged by a comparator 6, and then an analog switch 7 which passes a plus or minus impulse is activated. The amplitudes of those impulses operate directly on the pointer of an analog or digital monitor means 8. Consequently, the current speed is indicated and the degree of the shift from the maximum point of the economical speed is indicated.
