Abstract
PURPOSE:To surely detect the polarization direction of the reflected light and to miniaturize a device by providing a diffraction grating, which is different in inclination of a grating between both sides of the center line, and a light condensing element in the optical path of the reflected light. CONSTITUTION:The reflected light from a magneto-optical disk which is trans mitted through a polarizing beam splitter is made incident on the center line between diffraction gratings 31a and 31b, and the signal recorded on the magneto-optical disk is reproduced and detected when the difference of the quantity of diffracted light between diffraction gratings 31a and 31b is detected by a differential amplifier 38. The transmitted light of the diffraction grating 31a is condensed on a photodetector 35 by a lens 32 to perform tracking detec tion by the push-pull method. The transmitted light of the diffraction grating 31b is condensed on a photodetector 36 by a lens 33, and the signal of a photode tector 36 having the two-divided photodetector structure is inputted to a differen tial amplifier 39 to perform focusing detection by the knife edge method.
