The predetermined time is so set that the damage to the surface of a magnetic drum 12 is within a permissible range even when the head 5 makes repeated contact with the surface of the drum 12. The predetermined amplitude is so set that the damage to each contact part of the surface of the drum 12 contacted by the head 5 is within a permissible range. On the other hand, for returning the head to an original stop position in a short time after completion of the sait state, it is desirable to set the amplitude to be small.
