Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title porous fiber with reduced unevenness in pore size and distribution, by putting a mixture of specific short-cut fibers and carbon short-cut fibers into a mold, binding them to one another, then carbonizing them with heat. CONSTITUTION:Short-cut fibers which are self-adhesive and carbonizable such as pitch fibers, or cellulose fibers and carbon short-cut fibers such as polyacrylonitrile carbon fibers or pitch carbon fibers are mixed, the mixture is put into a mold and bonded to one another by the carbonizable short-cut fibers to form an intermediate material such as paper, sheets or plates. Then, the intermediate material is carbonized by heating in an inert atmosphere such as a nitrogen gas, whereby the subject pore fibers having excellent mechanical strength and conductivity.
