Abstract
PURPOSE:To attempt the improvement in resonance frequency and the like by setting a clearance gap between spring wires in such a way as to be wider in the upper end side thereof so that said gap will never be zero at the time of the maximum compression in a valve spring the upper and lower ends of which abut with a valve stem and a cylinder head respectively. CONSTITUTION:An engine is provided with a valve spring 22 arranged around a valve stem 18 at the upper side of a cylinder head 10. And the valve spring 22 energizes a valve body 20 to the direction closing the valve at all time so as to interrupt a passage 14 to a combustion chamber 12. In this case, a clearance gap L1 between spring wires at the upper side of the valve spring 22 is so formed as to be wider than the clearance gap L2 of the lower side thereof so that the clearance gap will never be zero at the time of the maximum compression of the valve spring 22. This constitution makes the resonance frequency of the whole of the valve spring 22 high so as to allow the rotation limit of the engine to be high, thereby lowering the natural frequency of the spring with the mass distribution to the upper side lowered.
