PURPOSE:To execute an exact fault diagnosis in the unit of a memory integrated circuit and to shorten fault recovery time for a system by incorporating a parity check circuit that checks the parity of input data and output data. CONSTITUTION:A memory system connected to the system bus of a microprocessor MPU includes q-pieces of static type RAM (SRAM1-SRAMq) and a memory control unit MCU that controls these static type RAMs, and reads/writes a storage data in the unit of nine bits including a parity bit. Also, these RAMs respectively incorporate parity check circuits PC to check the party of input data and output data, and the result of a parity check is transmitted to the MCU through a parity error signal PE. As a result, the normality of data can be checked in the input stage and the output stage of a semiconductor memory device, therefore, the diagnosis processing in the event of a fault can be facilitated, and an erroneous write due to abnormal input data can be prevented.
