Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce wear of a rolling roll and to extend service life of the roll by forming a cermet or ceramics thermal spraying layer of a specific thickness on a roll base material having a specific surface hardness. CONSTITUTION:A hardness of the surface of a base material is adjusted in the Shore hardness Hs range of 75-95. Then, a 10-60mum thick cermet or ceramics thermal spraying layer of Vickers hardness Hv of >=1000 is formed on the roll base material whose surface hardness is adjusted. A sufficient hardness as a rolling roll is obtained and a necessary roughness is kept in spite of increase of rolling amounts because the layer has good wear resistance. At the time of layer forming, a surface temp. of the roll base is kept at a prescribed low temp. not to lose quenching effect and to form a good thermal spraying layer. As the result, wear of the roll is small even for a long rolling time and schedule-free rolling can be performed.
