PURPOSE:To obtain an oxide superconductor having a critical current density comparable to that of the conventional one and a higher critical temp. than the conventional one by heat treatment at a low temp. for a short time, by melting powdery starting materials for an oxide superconductor by heating, rapidly cooling the resulting melt under blown oxygen to form a bulk and heat treating the bulk in an oxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Oxides, nitrates or carbonates which exhibit superconductivity after heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere are melted by heating, e.g., with laser beams 3. The resulting melt 2 is rapidly cooled under blown oxygen 5 to form a bulk and this bulk is heat treated in an oxidizing atmosphere.
