Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title hollow yarn membrane without leakage of blood plasma and having high gas exchangeability by forming the membrane with a polypropylene block having the inner surface consisting of a continuous phase wherein polypropylene granules compatible with each other are densely bound and the outer surface wherein polypropylene granules are linked in the axial direction of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:An org. filler such as polypropylene and liq. paraffin and a crystalline nucleus forming agent such as dibenzylidene sorbitol are kneaded, and the kneaded material is melted and discharged from an annular spinneret 15. The obtained hollow material 16 is brought into contact with a cooling and solidifying agent 17 incompatible with the org. filler and having 0.3-0.7cal/g specific heat capacity. The org. filler in the hollow material 16 is extracted and removed by a liq. extractant 25 such as trichlorotetrafluoroethane not dissolving polypropylene, and the hollow material 16 is passed through a heat- treating device 30 to obtain a hollow yarn membrane. The porous polypropylene hollow yarn membrane thus obtained is incorporated in an artificial lung as a gas exchange membrane.
