Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out refining such as dehydrogenation and inclusion removal without causing deterioration in work environment, by blowing powdered flux consisting of specific chloride and oxide into molten Al. CONSTITUTION:Al is melted by heating in a melting furnace by means of a burner, and then, a powder mixture consisting of a powder of Na-free chloride such as KCl as a principal component and a powder of F-free oxide such as K2SO4, KCO3, and KNO3 is blown into the resulting molten metal by means of a carrier gas by using a lance. By this method, refining by dehydrogenation or separation of impurity inclusions in molten Al are facilitated similarly to those by using chlorine gas without causing deterioration in work environment due to chlorine gas hitherto in use and fluorine gas from fluoride.
