Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the searching of a monitoring surface having a specified area at high resolutions, by arranging a millimeter wave scanning antenna for transmission and a millimeter wave scanning antenna for reception so that beams thereof are orthogonal to each other to scan the monitoring surface at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:A transmission signal from a radar body 1 is applied to a millimeter wave scan antenna 2 and transmitted scanning a specified area of a radar monitoring surface by a beam. Then, reflected wave from the monitoring surface is received scanning it with a millimeter wave scan antenna 3 and a signal thereof is applied to the body 1 to detect a target within the radar monitoring surface. Then, the millimeter wave signal oscillated 4 in high frequency is modulated 5, the resulting signal is applied to the antenna 2 through an isolator 6 and a directive connector 7 and a signal from the antenna 3 is applied to a mixer 8. With the mixer, the signal is mixed with a signal sent from the connector 7 to generate a beat signal, the frequency of which is measured 10 to derive a distance from the target with a computation and control 12. The use of scan drive circuits 13 and 14 enables scanning with the antennas 2 and 3 in synchronization.
