Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a main body of a printer inexpensive and compact, by selectively inputting to an A/D converting means a paper feed control signal from an optional paper feeder connected to a connector means, according as the signal is digital or analog. CONSTITUTION:When an optional paper feeder which transfers a digital paper feed control signal S11 is connected to a connector 31, an identification signal S13 provides no potential difference between both ends of a coil 46 a switch circuit 32, so that no electric current is passed through the coil 46, and movable pieces 47, 48 are connected respectively to NC terminals 49, 50, whereby the control signal S11 is inputted to an input port 33. When an optional paper feeder which transfers an analog paper feed control signal S12 is connected to the connector 31, a potential difference is generated between both ends of the coil 46 because the control signal S13 is set at a zero level, so that a current is passed through the coil 46, and the movable pieces 47, 48 are connected respectively to NC terminals 51, 52, whereby the control signal S12 is inputted to an input port 35 after undergoing conversion by an A/D converting circuit 34. Thus, the main body of the printer can be made compact.
