This flat transmission optical system 9 projects the incident laser light on a target horizontally widely. The laser light which is reflected by the target and reaches the laser distance measuring machine is converged by a photodetection optical system 10 to form its image on a sensor array 11 for reception. The output signal of this sensor array 11 for reception is inputted to a counter 17 through a preamplifier 12 and a stop amplifier 13. The distance to the target is displayed on a multichannel display device 18 according to the counting display of the counter 17.
