Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of welding by forming an Ag or Ag alloy layer on the surface of a band-shaped electrode and executing welding while moving the band-shaped electrode intermittently or continuously. CONSTITUTION:The Ag or Ag alloy layer 1a is formed partially or fully on the surface of the band-shaped electrode 1 consisting of Cu or Cu alloy, etc., and the electrode is mounted on a delivery spool 2. The electrode 1 is fed by a feed roll 4 and is moved intermittently or continuously to a take-up spool 3, by which the welding is executed. Objects 8, 9 to be welded are disposed between an upper electrode 6 and the band-shaped electrode 1 and are subjected to spotwelding at this time. Since fresh electrode surface of the band-shaped electrode 1 is always used, the welding strength and quality are stabilized. The lower level of the molding accuracy is required for the band-shaped electrode 1 and, therefore, the cost of the electrode 1 is reduced. Since the generation of welding defects is decreased, the welding cost is reduced.
