Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve traveling durability and electromagnetic conversion characteristics and to prevent the generation of stains on a magnetic head, etc., by incorporating a specific liquid hydrocarbon compd., fatty acid, and fatty acid ester into a magnetic layer into which ferromagnetic powder having a specific surface area is dispersed. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic disk is formed by providing the magnetic layer, which is formed by dispersing the magnetic powder into a resin binder, on the surface of a nonmagnetic base. The ferromagnetic metal powder having >=40m<2>/g specific surface area is used for said magnetic powder; in addition, the liquid hydrocarbon having >=4 pieces of alkyl groups of 1-3C in the side chain, the fatty acid of 12-22C and the fatty acid ester derived from monobasic fatty acid of 12-18C and alcohol of 3-18C are incorporated into the magnetic layer. The dispersibility of the magnetic powder having the large surface area is thereby improved and the various characteristics including the traveling durability, the generation rate of drop-outs, the electromagnetic conversion characteristics, etc., are enhanced. The generation of the stains on the magnetic head, etc., is prevented and the magnetic disk suitable for high-density recording is obtd.
