Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fishing rod which has the same level of strength and elasticity as in the rod reinforced with carbon fibers, by providing a reinforcing layer of oxynitride glass fibers impregnated with a resin. CONSTITUTION:The oxynitride glass has a structure where oxygen atoms in oxide glass is replaced with nitrogen atoms, the composition of 13-24atom.% Si, about 10-21atom.% Ca, about 0-5.2atom.% Mg, about 0-15.1atom.% Al, about 7.5-25atom.% N, and a fiber diameter of 3-150mum. The fish rod is produced by impregnating the woven cloth from the fibers with a thermosetting resin such as unsaturated polyester, phenolic or epoxy resin to form a prepreg sheet, then forming the prepreg through usual thermosetting process.
