Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten an average yield of solids by comparing a pressure increase time period, which is from the initiation of the feeding of a sludge with pressure into a filter room to the time when the pressure of the filter room reaches to a predetermined pressure, with a standard pressure increase time period, and then controlling the amount of an organic polymer flocculant to be added, based on the results of the above comparison. CONSTITUTION:A pump 7 is started and feeding of a liquid which has been undergone coagulation treatment into a filter press 9 is started. At this time, the increase in pressure is measured by means of a pressure gauge 8, and a pressure increase time, i.e., a time period required for the pressure on the pressure gauge 8 to reach to a predetermined value, is measured. This pressure increase time is compared with standard pressure increase time which has been predetermined by a controller 10. Where the measured pressure increase time is within the range of the standard pressure increase time, the amount an organic polymer flocculant to be added by means of an adding device 4 is set at the same amount as that in the previous addition. On the other hand, where the pressure increase time is shorter than the standard pressure increase time, this amount is increased; while where it is longer than the standard time, the amount is decreased. Thus, the amount of the organic polymer flocculant to be added in the coagulation treatment is always kept at proper values, thereby heightening an average yield of solids.
