Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title cast body capable of obtaining a dense SiC sintered body of complicated shapes by introducing a slip consisting of an aq. suspension of the SiC powder and carbon powder having respectively specified particle diameter into a casting mold coated with a mold-releasing agent. CONSTITUTION:A slip consisting of a suspension contg. 60-90wt.% of the SiC powder having <=200mu maximum particle diameter, 40-10wt.% of the C powder having <=100mu maximum particle diameter, and an aq. soln. contg. 20-40wt.% solid component (e.g., an aq. soln. of sodium alginate) is prepared. The thin film of a mold-releasing agent (e.g., a suspension of paper pulp and an aq. soln. of sodium alginate) is formed on a casting mold in one or two layers, and the slip is introduced. By this method, an SiC-C based cast body capable of obtaining a dense reaction-sintering silicon carbide sintered body can be produced.
