Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a white polyarylene sulfide suitable as a molding material, by reacting an alkaline metallic sulfide with an alkaline (earth) metallic halide in the presence of water under specific condition and bringing the resultant product into contact with a dihalogen aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:(A) A product obtained by reacting (i) an alkaline metallic sulfide with (ii) an alkaline (earth) metallic halide in the presence of water in a polar solvent and separating the polar solvent and/or water from the above- mentioned product solution at 0.0035-0.35 volume ratio of water to polar solvent is brought into contact with (B) a dihalogen aromatic compound to afford the aimed polyarylene sulfide.
