Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operating efficiency of a furnace by spraying coarse charcoal material from the vent part of a settler kept in a nonoxidizing atmosphere under the constant gaseous pressure, reducing and melting canning to remove away. The canning 11 is reduced and melted by the charcoal material to remove away. As the coarse-grained charcoal material, e.g., coarse cokes such as 63% one having >1mmphi and 37% one having <=1mmphi are used. By this method, the canning in a flash smelting furnace can be effectively removed away and the furnace can be operated under constantly stabilized conditions.
